Okay – I know I’m about 3 weeks late with my New Year post, but we’ve had some things going on around here. 🙂

I do have a few updates for you on Calypso, but I’ll tell you that in another post.  Also in another post I’ll tell you about how I’ve taken up knitting, and I just finished my first project!!

But first, the bigger news is that I have a new job!  : D

Some of you may know that it’s been a very long time coming.  But I’m very happy and excited to be where I am now.  I’m working now with a very large corporation that is extremely different from my previous position with a non-profit.

My position is a Communications Specialist, focusing mostly on internal communications and events.  After one month, I love the company, and I really like the people I work with.  And, bonus, they have an on-site gym!  It’s great to just take the elevator down to the basement to get in a good workout every day (okay, 3-4 times per week). 🙂

The only downside to this new job is location.  The hours are slightly longer already, and the commute, especially getting home, is a little rough.  It typically takes me a minimum of an hour to get home, on a very good day, but more often it’s closer to 90 minutes.

Because of this, J has really stepped up at home in helping out with dinner every night so we aren’t eating at 8:00 every night.  The first couple weeks we just bought a bunch of pre-marinated pork tenderloins, chicken, rice and pasta packets, etc, to make things really easy.  Now I’ve starting planning meals that really only require 2 nights of cooking for him, with leftovers the rest of the week.  And I try to find things that are very simple and fairly quick to make. I know he’s not completely comfortable as a cook, but he’s doing great!

Though the commute is a bit rough now, we are making plans to move, hopefully in the spring.  We’re trying to find a place fairly central to both of our workplaces, giving us both a nice, easy 20-25 minute commute.  We’re looking forward to when that day arrives. 🙂

But, for now, it’s nice just going to a job that I enjoy.  Even though I have to get up about an hour earlier than I used to, it’s still easier to get up every morning knowing that I’m going somewhere that I actually like to be.  I can deal with the commute for a few months for that.

I’m pretty excited for this year.  Though we do have Calypso’s illness to contend with, I think we’re going to have a lot of good things happen for us in 2013!
